About Dr. Mel
Hi there, I'm Dr. Mel! One of my favorite parts of being a physical therapist is getting to know my patients, their stories, and what motivates them every day. Connection is important to me. I'd love to share a little about myself so you can get a glimpse of who I am. Here's some background on me:
I grew up in Astoria, Oregon, which deeply shaped my appreciation for relationships and connection to community. In college, I aimed to pursue a career in orthodontics as I enjoyed the field of dentistry, but also wanted to connect with patients on a regular cadence. However I later discovered physical therapy and fell in love with it. I now specialize in treating Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and orofacial conditions, and am the only board-certified TMJ PT specialist in Oregon (CCTT). Treating TMD has allowed me to combine my interest for the dental profession with my passion for helping patients resolve their pain through physical therapy means.
My other passion is fitness. Having played sports year-round growing up, I find it rewarding to help others improve their movement patterns for athletics, recreation, aging and overall wellness. I love working with patients of all levels; from sedentary to elite athletes, I strive to connect with each patient and help to improve their ability to move, pain-free.
Lastly, my motivation for everything is my family. Being a working mom and wife can be a tricky balance, but it is what keeps me going and striving for more. My daughter is my motivation for staying healthy, strong, and most importantly, keeping my body moving so I can enjoy every moment together. I look forward to learning about your "why" and helping you to meet your goals!
